Beach day Number 2 - Sand-dunes session
We had another super day at the beach learning about the sand-dunes - where they come from, why we need them, and the threats to them (both man-made and natural). We got to make our own miniature sand-dunes and we also discussed how we can look after them. It was really interesting and we learned a lot about how important the sand-dunes are for our beach. Special thanks to Collete, Rob, and Mark for helping us on this trip.

CCC Shoreline Study
What a fabulous day we had at the beach today. Chris, our teacher from the Christchurch City Council, guided us through a series of activities which helped us learn all about the inhabitants of our shoreline, as well as learning about the threats and dangers to these creatures. We found out about man-made things and natural things and did a treasure hunt to collect various objects from each category. We then created a message to leave behind as a stamp of our learning. Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers! We are looking forward to another day of learning down at the beach tomorrow.

Surf Life Saving Education and Beach Trip
Today we had a morning lesson with some experienced Surf Life Savers and then went down to the beach to have a go at some Surf-Life Saving activities in the surf. A HUGE thank you to our parent helpers who came along and also thanks to those who braved the conditions and got in the water.

Quail Island
What an amazing day we had on Quail Island. Finally we made it after 2 cancellations and a whole lot of waiting! It was a beautiful day, not too hot, not too cold...the children walked around the entire island and thoroughly enjoyed themselves! A HUGE THANK YOU to the Room 10 parents who assisted us on this trip: Bianca, Caitlyn, Suzannah, Dan, Miranda, Anthony, and Nicki - we couldn't have gone without your transport and help with supervising the children. Also a thank you indirectly to the other parents - Johnny's dad Steve escorted me there!

Awesome amazing creative art chat
Today we asked the question "What is art?"
Here are some of our answers.
Art is...
...detailed background and bold drawing. Callum
...colourful things that stand out. Dion
...an expressive picture so people can admire it. Amelie
...creative mind. Poppy
...a way to express yourself through pictures. Aurora
...sculpture, crafting and designing. Eve
...a bright kind of thing. Selene
...when you have an idea and you want to express it in painting or sculpting, or putting a raccoon into a microwave, haha. You could call that art. Imo'
...an inspirational colourful and fun to look at picture or sculpture. Jeanne
...creativity and colourful patterns put together. Ava
...colourful and creative. Millie
...an inspirational expressive bright drawing that is pleasing for people to admire. Harry
...deeply lit colours with lots of inspiring ideas. Polly
...things that just pop into your mind. Ben
...a bright bold or detailed idea. Hazel
...wonderful stuff to our community. Olly
...a big idea that functions from the brain into the hands, out, and creates a massive drawing. Hugh

Is this face art? Some of us think "yes" because it's a drawing and an idea done with paint. Some of us think "no" because we see it as a piece of vandalism or graffiti, and it's on someone's property.
