Soiree

All are welcome to our Year 3/4 team Soiree from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the Sumner School Hall, this Wednesday 30th November. The recorder students, violin students and the whole team will be involved in a variety of items. The children need to be in the hall no later than 6:20. There is no need to be earlier than this.

For Room 10's Under the Sea Dance the children can wear uniform (as the uniform colours fit well with our sea theme) but also they can wear a seaweed-like decoration around a wrist/leg or in their hair. Purple, blue or green - it could be tinsel if you have any!

The drummers can wear a patterned shirt of any kind - Hawaaian, Fijian, floral or anything similar.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday evening.

African Drumming

We learned about Drumming on a djembe drum which comes from West Africa. Koffie from Ghana and Manoui came to teach us about Pe and boom sound or open sound and bass sound. We loved drumming with Koffie and we got to go to a showcase and some of us performed for everyone in the afternoon.

A few happenings!

A Few Reminders
Remember to come on in to check out your child's Calendar Art. This is in a red clearfile atop the bookcase on your left when you come into the classroom. We have done Portrait Figure Art. Orders need to be in to the office by Friday 9th September as per the order form which has been sent home with your child.
Quiz Night is coming up so if you are keen to get a team together please come along. That's on Friday 9th September also. It's also Book Week so on Friday there is a Book Parade and the children may wear a costume related to Sci-Fi or fantasy as that's this years Book Week theme. Please continue to enjoy lots of reading with your child this week.
Also the Science Fair is on Thursday 15th September between 6-7pm so please come and have a look in the classrooms at all the Science Learning from the term.

Please keep checking the calendar on this website for any other events.

Term 3 newsletter

                                                                                                                                   28 July 2016
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term three. A special welcome back to Harry K who joined Room 10 mid-way through last term. I hope you all managed to have a relaxing break and enjoy all the lovely weather we had.
Topics - Our  Topics this term are Our Fantastic Elastic Brain and Material world for Science later in the term. The maths interchange between the Year Three and Four continues with the classes working on fractions, proportions and ratios, number knowledge and strategy along with problem solving. For writing, the children will be working on ideas, structure/vocabulary, punctuation and sentences. In reading the main emphasis will continue to be the five important strategies needed to help understand what we read.
Home Learning - This continues in the same format as last term. The most important part of  Home Learning is the reading, as we are really trying to foster the love of reading with your children. If you need any advice or help with this aspect please contact me.
Library - Our library day is Friday. This is an important aspect of our literacy programme and books need to be changed frequently. A library bag is essential to transport the books to and from school.
Class Blog - The class blog is a great way of seeing what is happening in the class. We enjoy getting comments from home and try to update it at regularly as possible.
Sport - We are having Mainland Football and Lynn from the Tennis Club coaching the children in the respective sports.
Parent Help - Parent help is always appreciated. If you can help with anything- reading, maths, cleaning, putting away books, class trips- please let me know.
Bits and Bobs - At some stage through the year could you please donate a box of tissues for the class to use if you have not already done so. We are going through the ones that have been donated.
Dates to Note -
Book week 5-9 September
Science Fair 6.00pm Thursday 15 September

Thank you for your support.
