Today Friday 7th March we walked to the amazing beach in Sumner because our Quail Island trip had to be cancelled. We did some survival games and looked for hazards. On the way we saw glass fragments and broken concrete and lots of signs about hazards. We talked about the rough sea and undertows. We saw Cave Rock with the rocks all smashed on the ground.
When we went there the beach was beautiful, bold and bright. The tide was smashing on the rocks.
One of the team work activities was that we sat back to back and we needed to get up on our feet without using hands but using each other and team work. We saw Room 9's Year 3 boys pretending that there was a magic carpet and they were 100 metres high and they had to turn it over without getting off.
It looked hard because there were lots of people on it and they were all doing their own thing, and it was really hilarious. It's harder than it looks.
After that we went to a different part of the beach to build sand castles and things out of sticks.
Some of us used sticks, sand, shells, feathers and wood. Paige, Poppy and Selene made a double sandcastle. We were exploring and discovering new things to use for our sand castles. Eve and Hazel were pretending that part of the beach was a building and we were selling fire wood and we buried 2 of the special sticks. Matthew, Oscar, Olly, Dion and Callum were making different sandcastles and a few holes.
There were a few spiky balls around so we put them on some of our sandcastles. Jonah and James were trying the back to back challenge together. When they were doing it they accidentally lost control and crashed into the sandcastle.
Polly and Amelie took turns with the back to back challenge too.
Then Ava and Polly tried it and Ava carried Polly around on her back. Then Polly and Amelie made a sandcastle. We also found mermaid tears.
When we went to the beach we took lots of photos. It was an exhilirating time.

Hi Room 10.
ReplyDeleteI know you must have been disappointed not to go to Quail Island, but it looks like you had a wonderful time down at the beach. Aren't we lucky that it is so close. I really enjoyed reading about everything that you did. I think getting up off your feet without using your hands would be pretty tricky!

Can somebody please come and explain to me what mermaid tears ante and where you have to look to find them?
